Brian D. Agnew, Ph. D. is an experienced fundraising leader who has focused his time and efforts supporting causes that make a lasting impact on the lives and communities which need it the most. Most recently, serving as the Senior Vice President for Development and Chief Development Officer for the Robert Wood Johnson Health System, he led 3 Foundations across New Jersey enriching the experience, access to, and quality of patient care for one of the nation’s leading academic health systems.

Prior to joining Robert Wood Johnson Health System, Brian spent much of his career in higher education, first at Utica College in a variety of roles within alumni relations and annual giving, increasing annual support exponentially and then as the Assistant Dean of Advancement and External Relations at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. His campaign experience ranges from $25 million to $1 billion and includes private, liberal arts institutions, public research universities, and the health care setting.

He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University, where his research explored presidential leadership effectiveness in higher education institutions. Brian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Journalism from Utica College and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Organization and Management from Syracuse University, where he was the 2007 Commencement Speaker at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

Dr. Agnew has held an appointment as Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University’s School of Communication and Information; was an inaugural fellow in the Pre-doctoral Leadership Development Institute (PLDI); and frequently lectures on topics such as leadership, fundraising, higher education, organizational structures, and increased effectiveness through collaborative interactions. In 2015, Dr. Agnew was named to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s National Advisory Committee for New Jersey Health Initiatives and to the STATE Theater Board of Trustees in New Brunswick, NJ.
