Dick Walker's career has been devoted to work in and around nonprofits and philanthropy. He has his own consulting practice, R.O. Walker Company LLC and also is a Senior Consultant at Orr Associates, Inc. (OAI), a nonprofit consulting firm with offices in Washington and in New York. He has been a consultant to nonprofits since 2008 working with clients on a variety of engagements from capital campaign management to board development to strategic planning.
Dick brings almost 40 years of fundraising and development experience primarily in the independent school sector. Before joining OAI, he served FBR Capital Markets as Vice President of Corporate Giving from 2004 to 2008. While at FBR, he supported the growth and expansion of the firm’s philanthropic efforts, and helped bring in corporate and employee contributions totaling almost $10 million.
Prior to FBR, he had a 32-year career at the Landon School as a teacher and as Director of Development from 1982 to 2005. During his tenure, Landon School’s Development Office saw the creation of new programs and increased revenue under his leadership. He led two capital campaigns for the school, raising more than $25 million in contributions combined, and increased annual giving from $100,000 to almost $1 million a year during his time as the Director of Development.An alumnus of Princeton University, Dick currently serves on the Board of Princeton AlumniCorps, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing civic engagement. In the past he has serve on various Boards including Mentors, Inc. in Washington DC and as Board Chair of College For Every Student in Essex, New York. During his Landon years, he was active at the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), where he served on the CASE Board, chaired the Independent School Commission and was a frequent speaker at CASE and NAIS conferences and workshops.
